T-1 News September 13-17, 2010

We have had another great week. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for all of the great books from the Scholastic Book Fair! They will be a great addition to our classroom library. If anyone has any Post-it note pads that they would like to donate, it would be greatly appreciated. Here is what has been going on:

A PEEK AT THIS WEEK
This week we talked about the characteristics of a telling sentence. We were on the lookout for cpital letter at the beginning of the sentence and periods at the end. We also had to make sure that the sentence was telling us something about someone or something. We also learned about the -id, -ad, -it, and -at families. We started our 3-week unit on "Farm" and our five senses. We figured why bones are so important and even played a guessing game with each of our senses. We began talking about our Character Trait, Cooperation. In Math we worked on Teen Numbers and Tens in Teens.

LOOKING AHEAD
Next week, we will continue our 3-week unit on "Farms". If your child has anything he would like to share that goes a long with our weekely theme, then I encourage him to bring it in. In Language Arts, our weekly skills will be asking sentences, the contraction 's, and the -ack and -ick families. Our Word Wall words for the week are up, down, make, little, said. We will continue talking about our new character trait, Cooperation. In Math we will finish Unit 3. Our skills for the week will be 2- and 3-Dimensional shapes (Squares and Cubes), Using a Balance to Graph weight, and Graph Drawings. We will have a math test on Friday. Also, the date of Fiddlin' Rooster Field Trip has changed! Please see below!

HELP! HELP!
T-1 will go to Fire Station #4 (near the Ole Miss soccer fields) with the other first grade class for the smoke trailer, etc. We will need to be at the station to start at 11:50 and will finish at 12:30. If you would be interested in being a driver and chaperoning, please let me know ASAP. Stephanie will need to make a copy of your driver's license and insurance card before we leave on the trip.

*Friday, October 1: Field Trip to Fiddlin' Rooster Farm (permission slip to come home next week)
*Friday, November 5: Field Trip to Memphis Zoo (details to come)
*Friday, December 10: Grandparent Program (9:00am-10:00am details to come)
