T-1 News December 6-10, 2010

We have had another very busy week. We practiced our parts in the Grandparent Program and did a fabulous job! We are polishing up our songs for our caroling adventure on Tuesday afternoon. We also turned in our letters to Santa and Hanukkah Harry (they will be published in the Oxford Eagle on December 17th). I want to say a special thank you to Rose Ebel for teaching us about Hanukkah on December 1st. We learned so much and the apple filled donuts were delicious! Also thank you to Janet Davis for bringing us Gingerbread men to decorate this week. we had so much fun (you can see pictures of our finished men on our blog). Here is other stuff we have doing:

A PEEK AT THIS WEEK
This week we discussed what makes a noun a proper noun. We also reviewed digraphs (the "H brothers"). We also learned about the -ump and -amp families. We finished our 3-week unit on "Fantasy and Folktales" by discussing Folktales. We discussed the characteristics of folktales. We learned that folktales often do not have a known author. They also teach a lesson at the end of the story. We also talked about our Character Trait, Creativity. In Math we continued Unit 5. Our skills for the week were pattern blocks and attributes; teen numbers, partners, and equations; horizontal graphs and comparisons; and equal parts, equal shares.

LOOKING AHEAD
Next week, we will do a lot of holiday projects, a lot of skill review, and do lots of testing. Our topic is Holiday Fun. If your child has anything he would like to share that goes a long with our weekly theme, then I encourage him to bring it in. In Language Arts, we will be testing on all of the skills we have earned so far this semester. We will be tested on our Word Wall words for the semester as well. Remember, your child does not need to know how to spell the, he just needs to be able to recognize and read them. We will continue talking about our character trait, Creativity. In Math we will review Chapter 5. Our test for Chapter 5 will be on Wednesday.
