We have had a very busy, short week. We have been practicing our parts in the Grandparent Program and our songs for our caroling adventure. We also worked on our letters to Santa and Hanukkah Harry (they will be published in the Oxford Eagle after December 17th. Here is other stuff we have doing:
A PEEK AT THIS WEEK
This week we discussed the difference between singular and plural nouns. We have been continuing to work on a noun song, but it is still a little rusty. We also talked about the r-controlled vowel -ar (like in the word star) and inflections. We also learned about the -arn and -orn families. We continued our 3-week unit on "Fantasy and Folktales" by discussing Fairy Tales. We reviewed the characteristics of fairy tales and even made our own family crest (just in case we have a castle of our own one day). We learned that fairy tales are fantasy stories geared toward children. They have good and evil and often have some sort of magical creature in them. We also talked about our Character Trait, Creativity. In Math we continued Unit 5. Our skills for the week were adding partners to find totals; story problems; subtracting to make equal groups; and vertical graphs and comparisons.
LOOKING AHEAD
Next week, we will learn more about the differences between a fantasy story and folktale. We will also spend a good amount of time preparing for our big stage debut for our Grandparents. Also, if your child has anything he would like to share that goes a long with our weekly theme, then I encourage him to bring it in. In Language Arts, our weekly skills will be the digraph review and proper nouns. We will also learn about the the -ump and -amp families. Our Word Wall words for the week are any, about, away, why, who. We will continue talking about our character trait, Creativity. In Math we will continue Chapter 5. Our skills for the week will be pattern blocks and attributes; teen numbers, partners, and equations; horizontal graphs and comparisons; and equal parts, equal shares.
