"I Pledge Allegiance to the flag..."We have had a very busy week. We celebrated Veterans Day by participating in our school-wide assembly. I was so proud of the boys! They had another opportunity to make me proud that afternoon when they sang for the Veterans at the Veterans Home. It made all of those men and women so very happy to hear us singing and to receive the cards we made them. Those boys just bring a tear to my eye! Here is other stuff we have doing:
A PEEK AT THIS WEEK
This week we reviewed nouns. We paid special attention to the nouns that name people and places. We have been working on a noun song, but it is still a little rusty. We also reviewed Digraphs (the "H brothers") and s and r blends (like in snack or tree). We also learned about the the -ug and -un families. We finished our 6-week unit on "Animals" by discussing Reptiles. We discussed the characteristics of reptiles and even made of a list of all of the different kinds we knew. We learned that most reptiles live in very warm places! I LOVED seeing the boys' research projects. They were so well-rehearsed and quite informative. We also finished talking about our Character Traits, Curiosity and Appreciation. In Math we continued Unit 5. Our skills for the week were geometric patterns and rotations; story problems, patterns in numbers 1-20; and partners of 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, & 10.
LOOKING AHEAD
Next week, we will learn about the differences between a fantasy story and a fairy tale. We will also spend a good amount of time prepapring for our big stage debut as the football players in "The Turkeys Go On Strike." Also, if your child has anything he would like to share that goes a long with our weekly theme, then I encourage him to bring it in. In Language Arts, our weekly skills will be reviewing digraphs and nouns:animals and things. We will also learn about the the -ed family. Our Word Wall words for the week are your, much, by, when, other. We will begin talking about our character trait, Creativity. In Math we will continue Chapter 5. Our skills for the week will be tens in teens; partners of 10; and counting and grouping routines.
THANKSGIVING PROGRAM
PLEASE PRACTICE YOUR LINES!!!!! We will be dropped off downstairs all week due to play practice each morning. Remember, we are the football players! Please make sure your child is dressed in a football uniform (jersey) of some sort on the morning of our program. Feel free to go "all out"--football pants, pads, and a football helmet (to hold, not to wear; we don't want to hide our singing voices). This is always such a fantastic time for food and fellowship!
